Cheltenham Tips

By Ann  |  2 Mar 2017 00:00:00

It's days to the start of arguably the most exciting racing festivals of the year, Cheltenham.

And there's still time to create a a stirring millinery masterpiece. Felt is easy to block and shape and the elegant results speak for themselves. Trimmed with leather and crystals....the look can be quintessentially Cheltenham.

If you've never tried felt, check out these two blog posts for some handy tips:

Here's some good advice from Furlong Fashion

'When choosing your hat you should ensure you choose a hat made from felt, silk, velvet or leather and don't be afraid to be a little different. There are a plethora of fabulous hats which are adorned with spikes or crystals for those racegoers who like to stand out from the crowd and give a modern twist to the more traditional racing fashion. The most important advice I can offer is to make sure you avoid anything made from straw, chiffon or polyester type fabrics, as these are much more appropriate for Spring/Summer Racing'.

'For Ladies lucky enough to be racing the whole week during the festival -different days can call for different looks. With Ladies day and Gold Cup day being the slightly more formal days, you should opt for a more glamorous hat. For example an elegant Percher or cute Pill box with a veil or display of feathers. I am sure that we will also see many cloche style hats in vibrant colours alongside the more traditional fur Cossack style hats, Trilbies and Fedoras throughout the week. One betting certainty is there will definitely be no shortage of feathers firmly upholding the Cheltenham traditions.'

Most of alll- if you are lucky enough to be going to Cheltenham...have fun and stay warm.
