Marilyn's Dress is Here........Thank you Marilyn. Your light shines on.
The history of glassmaking in Bohemia has been written about since the 14th century. In 1711 the Fisher brothers brought the secrets of crystal cutting and polishing to Northern Bohemia In 1724, the first factory specialized in manufacturing and export of crystal chandeliers was established. Bohemian chandeliers were adorned the Royal Courts of Louis VX, the Ottoman Emporer and the Russian Empress During the 1800’s Bohemia became the world centre of jewellery industry. The development of jewellery and glass companies was interrupted by the World War II. In 1945 Bohemian crystal manufacturers, cutters and polishers merged to form the Preciosa company. Since 2013 Preciosa also produces a lead-free crystal (lead content < 0.009%). In 1962 Marilyn Monroe sang Happy Birthday to President John F. Kennedy at Madison Square Garden. The legendary star walked on stage and peeled away her white ermine fur coat, revealing a skin-tight, sheer, flesh-coloured dress that sparkled with over 2,500 handstitched Czech cut crystals. The custom Jean Louis creation was so tight fitting that Marilyn wore nothing underneath and had to be sewn into it last minute. When Marilyn appeared and the dress was finally revealed the entire audience gasped.
